The 2nd annual CanwaxWest workshop series was a wonderful success. Teachers Shary Bartlett of Vancouver and Tracy Proctor of Calgary, both internationally respected artists, were vibrant, open to sharing their knowledge, and able to teach to a wide range of artists- from beginners to those more accomplished. All three workshops were sold out and jam packed with new tools and techniques for the students.
Major kudos to the CanwaxWest board: President Judy Byer, Vice President Bethany Handfield, Treasurer Linda Swales, Membership Mandy Rollins and Secretary Jan Kreut for all of your hard work and dedication over the past year to put on this fabulous series of events. Thank you to Bethany Handfield Creative Arts for sponsoring the gift bags and lending equipment for the classes.
Special thanks go to the Shatford Centre for hosting our CanwaxWest workshops and the Waxing Poetic 2014 Art Show & Sale. The Shatford is a beautiful and central location and your assistance with our event made our time so much more comfortable. Thank you Jane, Faith & Peter.
The CanwaxWest executive would like to thank our “encaustic family”. This group is so much more than a group of artists – it is the passion, striving for excellence, and love within our group that make us unique. Thea Haubrich’s legacy lives on, not only in the success of our paintings, but in how we work together. Thea brought encaustic to the Okanagan many years ago and is remembered through these events, the Thea Haubrich Award of Excellence, and her Legacy Fund which enables other artists to learn encaustic. We were so proud of the work that everyone did over the 6 days of classes. It is amazing to see the growth and pushing of boundaries. There is so much to be proud of. A big thank you goes out to all of our volunteers. It was such a group effort
The Waxing Poetic 2014 Art Show & Sale in on from now until October 23rd. Please be sure to enter your ballot for the People’s Choice award from the lovely paintings on display. We invite you to join us on October 23rd at 7pm at the Shatford Centre for the Waxing Poetic Awards presentation. Thank you to our jurors Shary Bartlett, Tracy Proctor, and Dianne Bersea.
